The Black Student Union (BSU) may cease to exist, as no student has stepped forward to organize or lead the club for the fall semester.
Former BSU President Lindsey Taylor Sipplen graduated in spring 2024, leaving no successor, which has resulted in a lack of direction for the only Black Student Union at AAU. as no meetings are planned.
“The general purpose was to give space for the Black students of AAU to regularly see each other and catch up regardless of what your studies were. Allies were also welcome and plenty would come to meetings too,” Sipplen said.
Sipplen founded the Black Student Union in 2022, hosting biweekly discussions, social events, and activities such as movie nights at the school. Hosting a highly attended showing of “Black Klansman” last semester.
The BSU president position is open throughout the semester, regardless of ethnicity, but funding is only available to club applications submitted before Sept. 30. If you are interested, contact the club coordinator at connor.mccartney@aauni.edu.
