Many AAU students expressed how they feel unprepared to write their bachelor’s thesis. With the end of the semester looming, students are experiencing academic stress, panic, and confusion.

A lack of easily available information is surprising for some students, since the bachelor’s thesis is crucial to obtaining a degree.

“I have very limited knowledge on the topic of my bachelor’s thesis,” said a first-year business student who declined to share their name to maintain anonymity. “None of the information is coming from AAU.”

Many first-year students are still adjusting to university life in Prague. Most remain largely unaware of the challenging thesis, and state exams that lie ahead. AAU students are largely unaware of what is expected of them, and they report it is due to a lack of direction on AAU’s website.

“I only found out about state exams like a semester ago,” said second-year Mark Davis.

As students progress through their degree, they mainly rely on the upperclassmen to fill in the blanks regarding their senior year duties. Many students wish there were additional resources available to students before they are in their final semester.

The anticipation of theses’ due dates increases student confusion about what they should be preparing for. The outline given out by AAU has been described as “bare,” “confusing,” and “not well enforced” by AAU students.

While some students have shared they feel the thesis process has been straightforward, they would still like more guidance in choosing a thesis advisor.
