Meet Leila Mekhdiyeva
I always felt that it’s amazing to be mixed. I always felt really proud that I know both histories, traditions, cultures and languages, and I love them both. I love that in my childhood we always spoke three languages: Russian, my dad used to talk to me in Azeri and my mom in Kazakh. I think, I have two motherlands even though I was born in Kazakhstan. Every time I go to Azerbaijan I feel that this is the place I belong to. I’m getting emotional – I love being there, feeling this culture and hearing this language. My home is where I am – It’s better to think this way because you feel less homesick.
