Meet Adam Poplawski
I’ve always liked food and I’ve always liked cooking and I still do it often, especially for my family. I started “food travelling” one year ago when I came to study in Europe. From the very beginning, I knew that I wanted to try all the best foods that I can. Back in the States, I loved exploring New York’s food scene but I haven’t actually travelled around the country that much.
When I travel abroad, I always go to google maps and put stars everywhere I’d like to eat. Then I go on free walking tours, check lots of options and look for must-have meals. For example, in London, fish and chips, meat pies (like the savory with chicken and mushroom), and good chocolate, made from cocoa beans from West Africa, are must haves.
My favorite places for great food have been in Stockholm, where I tried authentic cinnamon buns. They were not like Ikea cinnamon buns—they had cardamom, nutmeg and at first, the taste was strange, but then I fell in love with it. In Poland I loved eating pierogi, especially with wild mushrooms and “Russian” ones, which are filled with onion, potato, and cheese. I found great pierogi in a restaurant that one of the guides from my walking tour recommended to me. Also the ice cream in Wroclaw the best I’ve had in Europe. When I come back to the US, I want to start “food travelling”, especially in cities like New Orleans, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Also, I would really like to put more time and effort into updating a food blog, and maybe making a career of some sort out of it.
