AAU’s Dancing Club kicked off its weekly classes on Friday, February 7, with new leadership aiming to introduce more dance styles to the club.
Hip-hop, K-pop, contemporary, and other styles are being incorporated, creating a space for beginners and experienced dancers to find their groove. While last semester focused primarily on hip-hop, members can now explore a more diverse lineup.
“I want to get people more comfortable being creative and expressive,” said Maria Luz Harker. Outside of weekly classes, she aims to host guest instructors and specialized master classes, including ballet technique and deep stretching.
On Friday, Feb. 28, members can expect a stretching technique class taught by Dancing Club founder and instructor, Adina. In March, the club will host a ballroom master class, hoping to help the AAU community prepare for the annual Spring Ball.
Dancing Club members often note dance isn’t just about movement—it’s about connection.
“No one really judges you here, and everyone expresses themselves freely,” said longtime member and social media manager Sara Alsaialy. “It helped me build my confidence and realize that you should feel free and not worry about what other people think.”
The AAU Dancing Club welcomes all individuals looking to refine their technique, try something new, or simply dance for fun.
Classes are every Friday at 18:00, and directions to the studio can be found on the club’s Instagram page.
