In light of Arbor Day—a day to celebrate the planting and preservation of trees—here is a guide to Prague’s many beautiful green spaces.
Prague is one of the world’s greenest cities, offering hundreds of parks that cater to every occasion: whether it’s a peaceful walk, a beer with friends, or even live music and dancing.
“The grounds of Vyšehrad are my favorite because it feels like walking back in time, it’s gorgeous during fall and is such a scenic walk through the grounds,” AAU student Morgan Romine said.
Stromovka Park, Prague 7
Stromovka, also known as the Central Park of Prague, is the city’s largest green space. It features multiple playgrounds, a planetarium, and a small aquarium. If you want to take a peaceful stroll among the fall foliage, Stromovka is a great choice, especially on the eastern side of the park.
Letna Park, Prague 7
Letna Park is another large park, famous for its beer garden, which opens during the warmer months. The park offers stunning views of the Vltava River, its bridges, and Old Town. On a warm summer night, you might even stumble across a live concert.
Kampa Park, Prague 1
Kampa Park is a charming riverside park with amazing views of the city and Charles Bridge. The area is home to many great cafes and restaurants, some of which were functioning mills hundreds of years ago.
Petrin Hill, Prague 1
Petrin Hill is an expansive park that sits atop Prague’s Malá Strana district, featuring enchanting gardens and historical landmarks. It also offers one of the city’s best sunset views. At the top of the hill is the famous Petřín Lookout Tower, which provides a panoramic view of Prague. Several cafes and restaurants in the area are worth exploring as well.
Namesti Miru, Prague 2
Namesti Miru, located in Královské Vinohrady square, offers lovely views of St. Ludmily, a beautiful neo-Gothic church. This park is typically called Peace Square, as it is home to the Peace Statue by sculptor Jiří Kryštůfek. The park hosts various cultural, social, and gastronomic events throughout the year.
“Sitting on a bench in Namesti Miru and hearing the organ being played from inside the church on Sunday nights made this park my favorite,” AAU student Abby Stone said.
Prague’s parks provide a perfect escape from the bustle of the city. Take this opportunity to enjoy the colors of autumn while working on your homework, grabbing a beer, or simply sitting with your own thoughts.
