Whether in the dead of winter or the heat of summer, the Saturday farmers market at Naplavka remains open to the public, offering outdoor activities to citizens and visitors in all weather conditions.
As the winter season approaches, much of the produce available at the market is replaced by crops that thrive in colder weather, including fresh root vegetables, brussel sprouts, squash, pumpkins, and winter herbs. Many vendors have also started selling seasonal and handmade wreaths in preparation for the Christmas season.
“All our crops are fresh and organic, grown exclusively in the Czech Republic,” said the main seller for Farma U Zelenych, a farm that has contributed to the market for over two years. “We are based not far out of Prague.”
The market has been running for about 13 years, originally started as a small, local depot to provide fresh, organic produce to people living in the city.
In recent years, the market has expanded into a highly anticipated and vibrant weekly event that showcases a variety of food, local produce, handmade goods, and live music, making it a favorite among locals and an essential tourist destination.
“I saw it on TikTok and decided to check it out,” American tourist Elinor Queiley said. “So far, my favorites have been the coffee carts, mulled wine, and all the traditional Czech food. It’s all so delicious!”
The Naplavka Saturday market is open from 8:00- 14:00 every Saturday with free entry on the Naplavka River Bank near the famous Dancing House in Nové Město. Be sure not to miss the live music, beginning at 10:00, and bring some cash as many vendors do not accept cards.
