AAU’s Students Against Violence Club is holding applications for executive members this up-coming week with three executive positions—Vice President, Social Media Manager, and Treasurer—needing to be filled.

SAV works to raise awareness for and educate members on current social issues. It also encourages student engagement in activism by holding fundraisers and events.

“The best part of running SAV is seeing the passion and dedication of the members in driving positive change. It’s inspiring to work with like-minded individuals who are committed to making a difference,” said executive member Antoinette Goldberg.

While the SAV meets about once or twice per month in room 3.13 at 5:30 PM on Tuesdays, executive members meet every week. The club’s meetings begin with the agenda, moving on to a discussion on current social issues, then event planning, and finishing with ways club members can contribute.

SAV plans one to two student events per month. On 1 March, they hosted a beer-pong tournament that sought to raise funds for Czech NGOs, including People In Need, Romodrom, and Rosa Centrum pro Zeny. After the tournament, the club designated 2600 CZK to Rosa Centrum pro Zeny.

The SAV Club also faces difficulties, such as getting students to participate and stick around.

“We do have people that are motivated and interested, but you do have to think about marketing and recruitment, and keeping people interested and active,” said Hannah Schermer another admin team member.

The next SAV event is an Earth Day event, in which SAV is collaborating with other AAU student clubs, including Fashion Club, Writing Club and Yoga Club. This event will involve a blackout poetry guided session, a clothing swap, and a collage workshop in the AAU courtyard on April 22 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Afterwards, the Yoga Club will hold a session in Letna Park at 4:00 PM.
