Screening venues for the showdown between the Philadelphia Eagles and the two-time reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs are dwindling, forcing fans to scour for new venues, settle for their small screens, or opt for sleep this Sunday.

The discontinued watch parties from fan-favorite venues like Globe Bookstore and Café have contributed to AAU students’ indifference toward the Super Bowl. With kickoff as late as 0:30 CET (18:30 EST), enthusiasm is hard to come by—even with American rapper Kendrick Lamar headlining the halftime show and R&B artist SZA appearing as a special guest.

“It’s just an excuse to drink,” said AAU student Angel Muñiz Reyna. “I’ll probably just end up watching it by myself in my room.”

Despite the AAU community’s waning interest in America’s Super Sunday, Prague’s expat scene is gearing up for the big game—and even bigger appetites.

Ashley McGlynn, owner of Vinohady’s Australian sports bar The Down Under, said he will be getting his hands dirty behind the bar and in the kitchen this weekend in what he calls his “celebrity shift.”

Alongside his infamous Australian pies, the bar owner will be making liquid cheese from scratch to accompany nachos, fries, and other American dishes that would likely be lower in cholesterol without the golden sauce. As of Wednesday, The Down Under  has received more than 50 reservations, and staff expect a turnout of around 80 people.

Bar owners aren’t the only ones anticipating an all-nighter. AAU student Marques Pigg will be working the Super Bowl LIX watch party at Drunken Monkey, a bar and hostel in Old Town catered to young travelers.

“It was absolutely insane, but so much fun,” Pigg said of his Super Bowl shift in 2024, which lasted well into early Monday morning.

This year, the business student hopes to leave by 2:00 to increase his odds of making his 8:15 class on Monday. Similar to last year, Pigg anticipates a robust crowd of more than 50 students, expats and football fans.

Most venues don’t charge an entrance fee but encourage attendees to arrive around 23:00 to secure the best seats, especially without a reservation. However, Hard Rock Café requires a reservation and a prepaid cover charge, as several professional Czech athletes are expected to attend.

Other popular sports bars will likely stream the beginning of the game until they shut their doors at 1:00. Booking with participating venues like Max’s Steakhouse ensures spectators can experience the whole show.
