Staying Calm is difficult lately with the devastating social issues on top of the struggles faced in our individual lives. AAU offers free membership to the app ‘Calm’ which offers courses on meditation, anxiety relief, sleep aid, movement exercise, inspirational stories and so much more.
Eighty-four percent of app users report improvement in their mental health after using the app. In the USA, roughly 15 million adults suffer from anxiety and in the EU it is nearly 25 million. You are not alone; anxiety and depression are the most common mental illnesses worldwide.
During moments of stress or anxiety, the body goes into fight or flight mode which can cause physical effects. Common symptoms of an anxiety or panic attack are a racing heart, difficulty breathing, dizziness, and fatigue. Meditation is a grounding technique and helps with stress, anxiety, and depression regulation. It increases the mind-body connection.
Meditation comes in as it is a practice of a calm state and can help soothe racing thoughts and anxious tendencies. University can be stressful and it’s important to try and regulate that. Large amounts of stress can negatively affect not only mental but physical health causing fatigue, sleep troubles, stomach issues, a change in sex drive, headaches, and chest pain.
